Vendor or Friendor?

The more I think about it, the more I realize that our wedding vendors actually are comprised mostly of wedding friendors.

Take a look see:
  • Hair Stylist. I'm getting my hair done by the stylist who has been cutting my hair since I first started getting haircuts almost 20 years ago. And before that he was cutting my parent's hair! We've known him forever and I can't imagine anyone in the world who'll make more of an effort to make sure my hair looks amazing on the big day :).
  • Our officiant(s). I've mentioned before that all three of the priests who will be celebrating at our marriage ceremony are close personal family friends. Fr. J married my parents, Fr. B was my dad's best friend in college, and my dad teaches C.C.D. at Fr. B2's parish. Not to mention that Fr. J (the primary celebrant) is the best homilist I've ever seen. I can't wait hear our wedding homily.
  • Make-up. This is less of a friendor and more of my mother-in-law being extremely generous. She is extremely gifted with make-up (it is her job after all!) and has graciously agreed to do wedding-day make-up for me and my girls :).
And even the vendors who aren't our friends yet are well on the way! My mom loved the bridal consultant from when I bought my dress, she couldn't wait to go back so they could chat about her thoughts on a mother-of-the-bride dress. Mishka and I chatted for an hour with our photographer about how his wife and daughter and how they share names with two of my sisters.

I guess a lot of that comes from the fact that my parents are really friendly people and have definitely raised me to be the same. It has definitely made the whole wedding planning experience much more enjoyable.

It's Been A While

Yes, I know, it's been a long while since I posted here. But don't worry, I'm back now :). (you missed me right? ;) ).

I've been doing a lot of things since I last posted, but I'll spare you the boring stuff and go right to the wedding-related stuff!

1) We've started our invitation shopping. We both went to brick and mortar invitation shops and also ordered a few online samples. We loved one of the online invitation samples, but want to go back to brick and mortar shops to see if we find anything that wows us even more.

2) We started ring shopping! Of course we only need to shop for one ring since my engagement ring has a wedding band on it. So far we found a great option online which will be our fall back if the stores let us down - we have one more to check before we make our decision.

3) Began registering! It's the most fun thing we've done in the wedding process so far. It's so great to select items that one day might fill our home together. It's just an awesome experience. They say you're supposed to register a number of items which is double the number of people who are attending your event, just to make sure there are plenty of options and a range of prices. You need some expensive things so maybe a few people can get together and buy you something nice, and a few cheaper options for the people who don't want to.

4) Ordering our Save the Dates! Well.. we haven't quite ordered yet. We'll be ordering them tonight hopefully. But everything is all formatted and worked out. Those of you who are getting them should be receiving them soon(ish)!

5) Narrowing down our first dance song. This has been a tough task since Mishka and I have EXTREMELY different tastes in music. I'm not going to tell you what our top choices are yet. That will be a post for another time.

In fact, I'll be following up on most of these things with longer posts describing the processes in detail. Keep a look-out!
